The Old Hangar is an enchanting wedding and events venue, perfect for intimate elopements and celebrations of up to 120 guests. Blending rustic charm with modern comforts, it offers a unique backdrop for your special day. The venue is suitable for both traditional seated receptions and relaxed cocktail-style celebrations. For seated weddings of more than 70–80 guests, an external marquee or tipi is required to accommodate everyone indoors (we recommend Gather & Gold). Standing or tapas-style receptions may not require additional infrastructure.
The main hangar provides 113m² of indoor space, including a 10 x 10m reception area and a dedicated 4.5 x 3m band and dance floor. Large doors open onto the historic airstrip, showcasing breathtaking farmland valley views framed by the Southern Alps. A handcrafted native timber bar, built from locally sourced Jacobs River timber, completes the space, with the venue operating on a BYO basis. Lovingly renovated with sustainability in mind, The Old Hangar incorporates recycled materials and contributions from the local community, preserving the stories of those who lived and worked here. One of its most distinctive spaces is Ag's Parlour—an antique lounge honouring John's grandparents, pioneers who built the Fox Glacier Hotel. Filled with vintage furnishings and grand chandeliers, it provides a nostalgic retreat while celebrating the property's rich heritage.
Couples can exchange vows beside the airstrip or in the adjacent paddock, with both ceremony locations offering spectacular Southern Alps views. Venue hire includes complimentary event supplies and an on-site event coordinator to ensure your day runs smoothly. For those wanting additional support, experienced interior stylist Kirsty also offers optional wedding planning and styling services. With a two-night, two-day hire period, optional accommodation and flexible venue packages, The Old Hangar offers a memorable setting where history, character and natural beauty come together to create an unforgettable celebration.
